TOK Across the IB Continuum LIMITED
Limited Capacity seats available

TOK sits at the heart of the DP. It forms “the habits of mind and character...from the experience of reflection on how knowledge is constructed and applied to the world’s problems.” During the last TOK curriculum review the course was aggressively challenged because it did not sufficiently reflect the IB mission that “people with their differences can also be right”. The approaches to learning, the framing of knowledge, the structure of the course and the areas of foci all reflected an inherently Western epistemological bias.

Given the implications and scope of this challenge surely it is not something that can only be addressed in a 100-hour DP course. We all know that TOK has to be centrally integrated into each of the six DP subject areas, but where is the vertical articulation? What opportunities exist for teaching TOK in PYP and MYP? How can we begin to conceptualize and teach aspects of TOK across the Continuum? How and where do we align language, questioning and critical thinking skills so that IB students acquire “the powers of judgement which are characteristic of genuine thinkers?” Equally where do we address the integration of other ways of knowing and truly different approaches to knowledge? Join us for a thought-provoking presentation and discussion on embedding TOK across the IB Continuum.
